Check a German WEEE number

How to check it in the register
- Open the register of producers and authorised representatives (ElektroG). The search is free and needs no account. The page is in German.
- Search by the WEEE-Reg.-Nr. DE. Without a number, search by the name of the producer or representative, or by brand. The other search fields are category and equipment type, and postcode and federal state.
- Compare each result row with the sale in front of you:
- Does the registration belong to the company that places the goods on the German market?
- Does it name the brand printed on the product?
- Does it name the equipment type the product falls into?
- Is there a market exit date? Then the registration has ended, even though it is still listed.
- stiftung ear keeps a separate register for batteries. A WEEE number does not cover batteries.

Questions
What does a German WEEE number look like?
The country code DE and eight digits, written WEEE-Reg.-Nr. DE 12345678. stiftung ear calls it an eight-digit WEEE-Reg.-Nr. The digits carry no meaning and there is no published check digit.
Does a producer have several WEEE numbers?
No. stiftung ear states that a producer or authorised representative has only one registration number but may hold several registrations under it for different brands and equipment types. The register shows each registration as its own row with the same number.
Is the registration order (Registrierungsbescheid) enough as proof?
The order shows the position on the day it was issued. The current entry in the stiftung ear register is what counts, because it also shows a market exit date when a registration has ended.
Does this tool query the register?
No. It only checks whether the input looks like a German WEEE number, then opens stiftung ear's official search. Whether the number exists and who holds it is shown only there.
Where does my own number have to appear?
Under § 6(3) ElektroG, when you offer the equipment and on invoices. A product page in an online shop is an offer, so the number belongs in every offer and on every invoice to customers in Germany.
